Closed Captions | Shoppable Video

How to add and display closed captions on Shoppable Videos

This guide explains how to generate closed captions for your videos and then enable their visibility within specific playlists.

Part 1: Generating Closed Captions for a Video

Follow these steps to add closed captions to an individual video file:

1. Access Video Settings:

  • In the Shoppable Video platform, navigate to Videos in the left-hand menu.
  • Locate and click on the video you wish to add closed captions to. This will open a settings drawer/panel.

2. Add Closed Captions:

  • In the settings drawer, scroll down to the Closed Caption section.
  • Click the + (Add) button.
  • A dropdown menu will appear. Select the language that is spoken in the video.
  • Note: Since these are closed captions (text in the same language as the audio), you can only add one language per video.
  • Click Create.

3. Caption Processing:

  • The system will now process your video to generate the captions. This may take a few moments.

4. Manage Captions:

  • Once captions have been successfully generated, the language will appear in the "Closed Caption" section.
  • Click the three dots (...) next to the listed language to access options:
    • Edit: Manually review and modify the generated text for accuracy.
    • Download: Download the captions as an .SRT file for backup or use elsewhere.
    • Delete: Remove the generated captions from this video.

Part 2: Enabling Closed Caption Visibility in a Playlist

Generating captions (as described in Part 1) makes them available for the video. However, to make them visible to viewers when the video plays within a specific playlist, you must enable them in the playlist's settings. One video can be part of multiple playlists, and you might want captions visible in some but not others.

1. Navigate to Playlist Settings:

  • Go to Pages in the left-hand menu.
  • Select the specific webpage that contains the relevant playlist.
  • Click on the playlist where you want the closed captions for your video to be visible.

2. Activate Captions in Player:

  • Once the correct playlist is selected/opened, access its Settings (this may be in a drawer menu that appears).
  • Look for a section titled Preview player settings (or similar, related to player appearance/functionality).
  • Toggle the Closed Caption option to the 'ON' or 'enabled' position.
  • Ensure you save any changes if prompted.

The closed captions for the selected video should now be visible when viewed within this specific configured playlist. Repeat Part 2 for any other playlists where you want these captions to appear.
